Laundry and the Storm

Laundry

Preface to this picture:

Paul is famous for spilling stuff on his shirt when he eats and/or cooks.  Whenever he spills something he justs throws his shirt on top of the washer and I spray it with Shout (or the equivalent).  Well, today he spilled marinade/liquid smoke on his shirt while he was cooking a brisket.  He took his shirt off and sprayed it himself.  EXCEPT….he sprayed Arm and Hammer bathroom cleaner (with bleach) on his shirt, instead of Shout.  So….this is what his shirt now looks like.

the front

the back

He only sprayed the front bottom part, but it leaked through and went E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E!  So, yes, all of those spots are bleach spots….

Lucky for us, it doesn’t matter what we wear to work, and, in fact, we both have several shirts that have bleach stains on them….just not quite that bad.

The Storm

We are in line for a H-U-G-E storm.  It started snowing about 1:30PM today and it’s a combination of snow/ice/sleet.  It’s not too bad…yet, but it’s supposed to get significantly worse by tomorrow/Wednesday.

This is what the NWS says,

“National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for central Illinois in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday until noon on Wednesday. Snow accumulation is expected to be 12-18 inches with winds increasing to blizzard conditions. People should expect sustained winds of 20-30 m.p.h. with gusts to 40 m.p.h. Freezing rain is predicted from Springfield to McLean county at the outset of the storm Tuesday. Citizens should be prepared for power outages.”

Let me tell you a few things that stand out to me in that statement.

1.)  Snow accumulation 12-18 inches (That measures over a foot, in case you were wondering).

2.)  With winds increasing to blizzard conditions (remember this).   I think it’s going to be worse this time.

3.)  Citizens should be prepared for power outages.

Here’s what we have to do for ourselves to prepare:

1.)  Stock up on food (I went to the grocery store last Wednesday, so we’re totally fine on food).

2.)  Do laundry (Two reasons for that)

Reason #1:  Make sure we have our warm, wool socks available, along with my pajama pants that I wear underneath my jeans-I don’t own long underwear-

Reason #2:  If we lose power, we lose water (we run on an electric well), so I can’t do laundry

3.)  Turn the heat up

Reason #1:  If we lose power, at least we will start up warmer so it won’t get so cold, so quickly

4.)  Take a shower/bath tonight

Reason #1:  In case we lose power-we’ll have no water-at least we’ll be clean for a couple of days

And, of course, Jim, our maintenance guy, is out of town this week, so Paul is in charge of plowing!!  So, he’ll be up at 5:45AM tomorrow morning, on the plow, clearing the roads!  I’m so proud of him!  🙂

So, here’s to the storm….

Day Twenty-Nine

3 wishes:

If I had a magic lamp…

Well, naturally the given wish would be world peace (think Miss Congeniality), but I’m not going to count that one.

1.)  My family lived closer together

2.)  My “Meme” would not suffer anymore and know it’s OK to let go and go to live with Jesus

3.)  A higher metabolism or no weight gain, despite the fat and caloric intake (OK, everyone is entitled to a selfish wish)
