More pictures!!

Every afternoon after lunch we had “Rec Time” for about an hour–there were 12 teams total–8 M.S. Teams and 4 H.S. Teams! It was 3 days of just silly games where earned points for sportsmanship, encouragement, team chants, playing nicely, WINNING, etc. I was the “Team Leader” for Blue One–Dana was on my team (she was the only one from our group that was on my team)!

Youth Camp-Part One

Well, if Vacation Bible School wasn’t enough, Paul and I just got back from a week at Youth Camp. We took 12 kids: 10 girls and 2 boys to camp at H.O.T. in Brownwood. (I definitely drew the “short straw” because I had 10 girls–4 H.S. girls and 6 M.S. girls and Paul only had 2 boys)!!

We had a good week–just the right amount of time away–much longer and my patience would’ve worn a little thin! (Victoria calls me “Nazi” when we go to camp–and, I’m OK with that)!!

Vacation Bible School 2013

Well…..we survived! It’s now 12:04AM (it just rolled over to Saturday), so our week of Vacation Bible School is officially over!!!

I absolutely loved it! There’s so many stories I could share, but here are a few of the highlights:

  • We raised over $400 in offering throughout the week. All of that money is going directly back to our youth that are going on the Mission Trip in July to Knoxville, TN.

One cute story: One of our 5 year olds found a quarter on the floor during crafts. He found me and said, “Ms. Callie. I found this quarter; take it to Tennessee with you, OK?” 🙂

  • I cannot count all the children that told me the memory verse this week! It was amazing!! Even the little 4 year olds were “spouting” it out, like it was NO BIG DEAL!!!

2 timothy 1 7 bible verse2 Timothy 1:7

  • Apparently there’s a new book in the Bible: 2 Tiffany!! 🙂 (One of the little ones told me the verse was in 2 Tiffany (not 2 Timothy)….I thought it was so cute; I didn’t correct him)!
  • We had an average of 78-80 kids each day for the whole week! I am just beyond excited about that….there are 2 other churches in our area that had VBS the same week we did. Honestly, I was so disappointed because I was just sure we were going to “lose” kids to Martin Luther. And, we probably did, but overall it did not hurt us AT ALL!! (My “hopeful” number was 60, so we blew that OUT OF THE WATER every single day)!!
  • As the director, I was blessed by some wonderful workers/park guides/volunteers/youth helpers, etc. They exceeded my expectations and just went above and beyond what was asked/expected of them! The “adult” workers in the certain areas: Crafts and Recreation, just complimented their youth workers over and over–how wonderful they were, how helpful they were, etc. (Makes me feel good, since they are a part of our youth group)!!
  • I have some great friends who stayed after VBS this afternoon and helped tear down decorations and box them up for another church!! Thank you Sandra, Paul, and Erica!
  • I have met some great families in our community (Hi Kelly)!!

And the best thing of all!!!!!

  • We had 4 girls decide, for the 1st time, they wanted to ask Jesus in their hearts!! And, they did! I had one girl come and talk to me about it on Wednesday!!! Then, I had 3 girls talk to me today (Friday)–I was so excited….I could not even talk about without crying! Praise Jesus!!

I will show pictures of the VBS through the kids that I know (and would be OK having their face on our blog)!!

Vacation Bible School 2013

About 6-7 months ago we were having a Children’s Committee Meeting, talking about Vacation Bible School. Obviously, we needed a director. And….me, having an OCD/ADD, crazy-obsessed-with-organization/wanting-to-be-in-charge  personality, VOLUNTEERED!! So, here we are. Our 2nd day of Vacation Bible School!

I’ll do a post about it later, but for now, I just wanted to remember the decorations! We were SO SO blessed this year by 3 different “churches” giving us decorations to use. Our association (FIRM Baptist area) that we are a part of “built” a few decorations and are passing them around to the different area churches. So…some of our decorations came from them. Last Thursday a church from Bryan called me and asked me if I wanted some of their decorations–of course!! So, I drove over to Bryan on Friday morning and got some of their decorations–that same day, a church in Cameron called and let me have some of theirs. So, after Bryan, I drove over to Cameron and picked up more! And, to top it all off–my friend, Lindsey, helped me A TON and made me several posters, along with a couple of the youth girls from our church! We were not lacking in the decoration department. I think it was “just enough” without going overboard!

And, the cool thing is: we are going to be able to BLESS 2 MORE churches when we give our directions to them!

So….here are our decorations!

Summer Daze Activity #1

Back in April, the Children’s Committee at church (which I am a part of) talked about what we wanted to do this year (during the summer) for the kids….

We decided NOT to do something every week….

Not because anybody deserves justification…but here’s the 3 reasons why we decided not to have activities every week:

1.)    Give the teachers who teach every Wednesday night during the school in our PB&J program a break

2.)    Give the families a break from having to go somewhere every night. A lot of our families are involved in T-ball, baseball, softball, karate, boy scouts, etc. So, having church on Wednesday nights is a blessing, but it just becomes “another activity” to have to come to…so we’re just giving them a break!

3.)    We cannot get volunteers to help. Last year we tried to do a summer activity and we tried to rotate people to “teach” and ended up having the same 2 people do it the whole summer….

Our disclaimer**

We, as the Children’s Committee, stand behind and stand firm on what we have decided. The reason why we were placed on the Children’s Committee is because we love the kids of our church and we want to do what is best for the children of our church and for their parents. We have to meet the children and the parents where “they are” and meet the needs that they have/that are relevant to their lives today. And the fact is….our children/parents/families are busy and tired. They are much busier than when you and I grew up, so our curriculum/teachings/activities have to change and adapt to that. We are doing our church a disservice if we plan things that are not benefiting them in the season of life that they are in. Therefore, we, as the committee, think that having 3 “big” events (one a month) is a way for our families to be able to have something to look forward to but also have the freedom to go, travel, have fun, live on a different schedule during the summer–that’s the whole point of summer!!
We can’t create programs and curriculum just for sake of creating them, if they are not what our kids/parents need. What our kids and parents need is something that is not “regimented” and adapted to their schedule, not the other way around.

And, so Summer Daze Activities were born!! We have 3 major summer activities: one per month!

June: Wet n Wild at church (water games, toys, slip n slide, etc.)

July: Park n Play (bring your own dinner and play at the City park)

August: The best of both worlds (bring your own dinner and we will be swimming at Toni’s house)

(anyway) So, last night we had our 1st Activity. It was a BLAST!!! Everyone loved it–

Leftover “not-so-exciting” but blog-worthy pictures!

Here are some random pictures that I have taken over the last couple of weeks….

Last Wednesday Aislyn came to "play" and we stopped at Dairy Queen....

Aislyn

One time (about a month ago) I picked up Aislyn from school. Ever since that day, she’s been beggin’ me to let her come home with me! So….I obliged.

Last Tuesday she came home with me. The 1st stop was to, of course, Dairy Queen. She and I had a great discussion about the Ten Commandments–in fact, the guy next to us (The Schwann man) helped us list all 10 commandments!!

Brookyln spelled her WHOLE name

On Thursday morning I came up to the church and my friend, Pam, came with me. Brooklyn practiced writing her WHOLE name….(she had to redo it 4 times because it wasn’t “perfect”)
